I’m Windy Cole and I’ve been representing District 5 on the Rock Hill School Board for the past 8 years. I am committed to fostering a supportive environment where equality meets opportunity, and every student is able to thrive and reach their full potential. My commitment to the betterment of our schools and community drives my passion for re-election.
I’m married to retired Rock Hill Police Lieutenant, Doug Cole. I’m the proud mother of three Rock Hill High School graduates, Courtney, Joshua and Cameron Tuck. And I have a beautiful granddaughter, Magnolia Rose Hernandez.
I have been involved in serving Rock Hill schools in various ways continuously for over 28 years. I have served on PTA’s & School Improvement Councils of Ebenezer Avenue, Sylvia Circle, Sullivan, Castle Heights and Rock Hill High. I received Volunteer of the Year Awards from the Rock Hill School District in 2001 & 2006.
My background following college was marketing, advertising and sales. After losing everything in a house fire, I looked around and realized that the only thing that I had really lost was time with my children. I decided to cut back on work and focus on my children. Several friends who were teachers, asked me to substitute for them. I ended up subbing full-time for the RHSD for two years.
It was during my time as a substitute that I began to see the discrepancies between schools. There were classes of middle school students, who had slipped through the cracks and were not on the same reading and math levels as my 3rd grader. I actually ran for the school board in 2000 to shed light on the issues that I was seeing in the schools. Although, I didn't win that election, I continued doing what I could to support Rock Hill Schools.
I decided that any future career moves for me would involve improving our community. Recognizing the need of parental involvement in children’s academic success, I began working as a Family Educator for the RHSD ParentSmart program. ParentSmart helps parents to be their child’s best first teacher and starts children on the road to a successful education.
For the past 16 years, I have worked for the Culture & Heritage Museums where I am the Volunteer Resource Manager. My position allows me the opportunity to interact with parents, community members, students and teachers on a daily basis.
